Swiss Days 5K

Saturday was the annual Swiss Days 5K! Jaycie and I usually run it together..........well kind of. She always kicks my behind, but we do it and both finish. This year due to Jaycie's injury she was unable to run it, which took all the fun out of it for me. Tara, Heidi, and Doug ran it though and they were my picture buddies this year! It's always nice to have someone your happy to see at the finish line! This year I improved my time by almost a full 2 minutes. I am still turtle slow, but at least I'm getting faster! I finished 7th in my age group with a time of 27.20. It was fun and I look forward to next year and having Jaycie with me again! By the way, an update on her knee. She has a slight tear in the MCL and is doing therapy to help it get stronger. We are all hoping to have her back in for the Region playoffs! But will be satisfied with a healthy knee if that is the best we get!

A Busy Week.....but what's new?

Well, it's Friday! Here is an update of what happened with the Shotwell's. Monday was Skyler's football game against Dixie! The Trojans (his team) overpowered the Flyers 14-8 for the win! Tuesday was one of my days off and I used it to de-junk the toys! Doesn't it feel good to get things done!?! I was also able to volunteer in Jaxyn's classroom! It was so fun! He is fun to watch at school! He is a different kid there than he is at home! I'm not sure what that says for me??? Tuesday night SCHS Girl's Soccer played Canyonview. We tied in double overtime once again......but this time with no score. Jaycie was taking it easy due to a slight knee injury but was put in for the over times. She did a great job and shot quite a few times, but that CV goal keeper was able to keep it out of the back of the net. I think CV felt like they won the game, but we sure didn't! It is hard on our girls to tie a game with a 3A team. Wednesday was a fun day of work for me, then on to YW! I was able to leave a bit early with the boys in charge and go to the play Big River with my mom! It was so fun and they did a great job! If you have the opportunity to go, do! Thursday night we played soccer at the Redmen soccer field against the Lady Reds in Cedar City. We were 0-0 at the half. Jaycie was able to get some great playing time in until she was injured in play in the second half. She rolled the ball under her foot and hyper extended her knee. We haven't gotten a final diagnosis yet, but will keep you posted! We are hoping to have her back in for the finals. But if she is unable to play for the rest of the season we will be happy to get it taken care of and make sure she is healthy for the coming years! Jaycie was the second gal on our team to be injured this game. Torrey Bergen won't be back in the game for 3 weeks after injuring her ankle. This year has been a rough year on our girls, as they have stepped up the level of play, we've seen more injuries. In the last 20 or so minutes of the game our coach made a great call when he pulled Kylie Moore, our goal keeper from the goal and put her in as forward. Cecilee Horlacker a freshman was put in as goal keeper and she did a great job defending our net! Kylie scored the winning goal for our team and kept us from tiing our third 3A team. We won Cedar 1-0! Our family enjoyed staying at Lance's parents house for the night and we have just hung out here for the day enjoying some down time! Tonight we take the field at our very own Cedar High. It is Cedar's homecoming tonight. We are hoping for a great game and although it's sometimes hard to say........we hope to beat the Redmen! Go Snow Canyon Warriors!! Tomorrow is Brynklie's baptism! We are all excited for her! Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Miss Sprinkles!!

Friday, September 19 was Brynklie Jo Shotwell's 8th birthday!
I think she had a great day! It seems like only yesterday that we were enjoying toting this one around on our hip! She has always been a pleasant, sweet child.....one of our most quiet ones!!! If that is possible! She is definitely our peanut! Her older boy cousins started lovingly calling her "Sprinkles" when she was about 3 years old! She definitely sprinkles sunshine wherever she goes!
We started off the morning with donuts and chocolate milk, her choice!

She then opened her gifts, her favorite being her "Miley Cyrus" doll!!!

Grandma Sandy was even sweet enough to come join us at 7 am to party!!

That night we all went to the Snow Canyon vs. Desert Hills Varsity Football Game! Her friend Avynlee came with us and Brynklie had a great time watching the Warriors shut out the Thunder! 48-0!!! We really enjoyed watching John Jr. get some great tackles! One of Jaycie's good friends Brooke Merrill was also having her 16th surprise birthday party this same night. She wore this tiara and banner all night long at the game and then was sweet to present it to Brynklie after the game was over! Brynklie and Avynlee later enjoyed a fun sleepover which is saved for only special occasions! Next weekend we will baptize Brynklie at the Santa Clara Stake Center 3pm! She is truly looking forward to that!

One More!!

Well, Thursday night we played Desert Hills at the new Thunder Dome! It started out as a great game with Jaycie scoring her second Varsity goal. It was a bit comical, the Thunder goal keeper caught the ball but then dropped it. Jaycie followed through to the goal, but went to turn around when the goal keeper caught the ball. She then glanced back to see the goal keeper on her belly and the ball out of reach and still in play. Jaycie kind of looked at the goal keeper, looked at the ball and just lobbed it in for the score.........rather non-chalauntly! It was awesome! Later in the game Sara Gunn also booted the ball into the net from about the 40 yard line (maybe??) for an awesome long shot! We led the Thunder 2-0 but then they snuck in on our goal keeper Kylie Moore. Later in the game we fouled in the box to give the Thunder a PK which tied up the game........going into double overtime. We ended the game at around 10:30 at night sending the Thunder goal keeper home in the ambulance with a tied score. Jaycie said that she had heard that the goal keeper had knocked a vertebra out of place. We hope she'll be okay and will return for the season! I hadn't realized what a bad thing to tie up a game with a 3 A school would be, but it evidently brought our region points down so that we must definitely win our game with Dixie a week from Tuesday! Needless to say, we are still very proud of Jaycie as she continues to progress and earn a more solid Varsity spot! Stay tuned.....there will definitely be more to come!

Jaycie's First Varsity Goal!!!!

This is Jaycie playing soccer up in Cedar at Canyonview. As luck would have it I forgot my camera for the Pineview game! Ugh! When I sat down at the game on Thursday night I thought to myself....this is it, tonight is the night! I guess I had mother's intuition or I was using the "Secret" but she did it! Jaycie scored her first Varisty goal! What an amazing feeling for all of us! We are so proud of her! If you have time, read the news articles below! They are pretty fun!

For The Spectrum & Daily News
ST. GEORGE - Jaycie Shotwell's first varsity goal will be memorable for more than one reason.
The Snow Canyon sophomore's first-half goal was the lone score in the Warriors' 1-0 road at rival Pine View in a crucial 4A Region 9 matchup on Thursday.
After Shotwell's score, Snow Canyon's defense held up against a ferocious Pine View attack in the second half to claim the victory.
The win puts the Warriprs securely ahead in the region race. With road wins at Dixie and Pine View, the Warriors (2-0) are close to locking up a playoff spot and are one win away from clinching a share of the region title.
With only four regular season games determining the two playoff spots, each game is huge in Region 9. Now some of that pressure is off the Warriors.
"That was the thing I was most worried about tonight - our girls tense up in big games," said Snow Canyon assistant coach Kenny Kunde. "But now Pine View and Dixie play on Tuesday, and someone is going to be 0-2."
That could mean two wins will be enough to get the Warriors into the playoffs. Thursday's game was originally scheduled to be played at Snow Canyon, but it had to be moved to Panther Stadium because of a scheduling conflict. Due to the mix-up, the Warriors will face both their rivals at home in the second half of the region schedule, including Pine View on Oct. 7.
Snow Canyon scored in the 37th minute when Liz Ricks stole the ball inside the penalty area. Ricks dribbled to the baseline, spun past a defender and then hit a line-drive cross to the far post where Shotwell headed the ball into the net.
"I've been really, really close (to scoring a varsity goal)," said Shotwell, who is in her second year of playing varsity for the Warriors. "It was a perfect pass, and all I had to do was be there. It just bounced off my head."
The Panthers responded by playing with a sense of urgency in the second half. The Panthers routinely put pressure on the Snow Canyon backline, but the Warriors rarely cracked. Led by sophomore sweeper Victoria Bergen, the Warrior defense only allowed Pine View two good looks at goal despite the constant pressure.
"Tori (Bergen) was amazing," Kunde said. "That's the best I've ever seen her play."
But both of those opportunities were dangerous ones, as the Panthers twice had wide-open chances inside eight yards.
In the 59th minute, Pine View's Julia Chipman hit a booming, one-hopper on a 20-yard free kick. Snow Canyon keeper Kylie Moore knocked down the kick, but a Panther swooped in for the rebound and knocked the ball over the bar from six yards out.
About 10 minutes later, the Panthers again threatened when Sara Lee sent a well-placed cross inside the box to a wide-open Kylee Glines. Moore charged, and Glines was forced to pop it up over her, and the shot grazed the crossbar before falling harmlessly away.
Girls' soccer: Warriors steal key game from Pine View

Salt Lake Tribune

ST. GEORGE - Snow Canyon's aggressive play in a 1-0 win against Pine View on Thursday night was an important push-and-shove rally. The three 4A teams in Region 9 - Snow Canyon, Pine View, and Dixie -fight to secure the top two positions for playoffs. As the Warriors and Panthers elbowed through the first period, Pine View led in goal attempts 8-1. Rachel Laidlaw diverted many of the Panthers' attempts. Pine View's passers showed more skill with 15 total goal attempts. Snow Canyon had three. However, Snow Canyon showed more grit in securing a goal in the first half. With a slotted assist from Liz Ricks in the corner, Jaycie Shotwell headed for the only goal of the game. "It was my very first varsity goal. It was the coolest thing ever. Liz Ricks dropped it back to me and I handled it in. It was so easy," Shotwell said. Ricks said the play went according to plan. Shotwell "was in the right place at the right time." Pine View and Dixie play on Sept. 16, another huge game in Region 9 for determining playoff positions.
